Setting up your API key

Lodgey uses your own Anthropic API key to power the AI agent. This page walks you through getting a key and adding it to Lodgey.

  1. Go to console.anthropic.com and sign up (or sign in if you already have an account).
  2. You’ll land on the Anthropic Console dashboard.
  1. In the console, navigate to Settings → API Keys (or go directly to console.anthropic.com/settings/keys).
  2. Click Create Key.
  3. Give it a name (e.g. “Lodgey”) and click Create.
  4. Copy the key immediately — it starts with sk-ant- and is only shown once.

Anthropic requires prepaid credits before API calls will work:

  1. Go to Settings → Billing in the Anthropic Console.
  2. Add a payment method and load credits (AU$10–20 is enough to get started — most property tax sessions cost a few cents each).
  1. Open Lodgey and click your profile icon (top-right) → Settings.
  2. Paste your API key into the API Key field.
  3. Click Save.

Your key is encrypted at rest and never leaves the Lodgey server. You can remove it at any time from the same Settings panel.

Lodgey supports two models — pick one in the Model dropdown in Settings:

ModelBest for
Claude Sonnet 4.6 (default)Day-to-day use — document processing, evidence filing, calculations. Fast and cost-effective.
Claude Opus 4.6Complex CGT, multi-property reconciliation, edge-case tax scenarios. More thorough, costs more per message.

Start with Sonnet. It handles 90% of property tax tasks. Switch to Opus when you need deeper reasoning — sold properties with complex cost bases, conflicting figures across documents, or unusual tax scenarios.

You can switch models at any time. The change applies from your next message.

API usage is billed directly to your Anthropic account. Lodgey does not charge any markup on API costs.

  • Sonnet — cheaper per message, good for high-volume document processing
  • Opus — costs more per message, worth it when reasoning quality matters

Typical costs: processing a full set of property documents for one investment property is usually under AU$1.
