What is Lodgey?
Lodgey is an AI tax agent built for Australian property investors. It helps you prepare your tax return, calculate capital gains, manage rental deductions, and build an ATO-ready evidence pack — all through a chat interface.

What it does
Section titled “What it does”Lodgey operates as a guided conversation. You chat, upload documents, and Lodgey builds a live spreadsheet (the “Live Report”) that tracks every rental income item, deduction, employer, and capital gain.
Under the hood, Lodgey:
- Reads your documents — PDFs, images, CSVs, Excel files. Settlement statements, loan documents, payslips, rental agreements, depreciation schedules.
- Searches your Gmail — with your permission, Lodgey searches your inbox for rate notices, insurance renewals, and property management statements you may have missed.
- Files evidence — every fact is categorised into ATO evidence folders (rental income, interest, repairs, depreciation, employment, CGT).
- Builds a live spreadsheet — an ATO-aligned workbook with tabs for the Rental Schedule, Individual Tax Return, CGT Calculator, and PAYG Variation.
- Runs interactive calculators — capital gains tax, negative gearing, tax planning scenarios, multi-year cashflow forecasts, and PAYG withholding variation estimates.
- Remembers across sessions — within a project, Lodgey retains context from previous chats so you never repeat yourself.
How it works (technically)
Section titled “How it works (technically)”Lodgey runs on Anthropic’s Managed Agents platform. Each conversation session gets its own isolated container with sandboxed code execution. Your data is processed through structured tools that write directly to a secure database — Lodgey doesn’t just generate text, it takes actions.
The agent uses Claude Sonnet 4.6 by default (configurable to Opus 4.6 in Settings). It has 16 custom tools for structured data operations and full Bash/Python access for calculations and file processing.
BYOK — Bring Your Own Key
Section titled “BYOK — Bring Your Own Key”Lodgey uses a Bring Your Own Key model. You provide your Anthropic API key in Settings, and all API costs are billed directly to your Anthropic account. Your key is encrypted at rest and never logged.
